“One thing I like best about the movies of the early 2000’s is that they were trying to be unique. They weren’t trying to be like the movies of the Disney Renaissance, they were trying to be themselves.”

Haha, there was that other confession about wanting a movie where the girl doesn’t end up with the guy at the end and the image maker chose to use an image of Pocahontas almost as a “what about me?”
Is this another bit of snark from the image maker since Treasure Planet is based off Treasure Island? I do hope so!
Keep at it, confession blog runners! I love this shit.

This is making me laugh more than it probably should.

“I’m thankful that I’ve never once had someone tell me it’s childish to like Disney, and I think maybe it’s the area I’m in. I’m very open about my love of Disney, and all the adults I’ve met have either loved it as well or just been indifferent. I’ve been looked down on for other things, but I’m glad Disney has never been one of them.”

“I think that people who like Disney that are over 20 years old are childish. The movies were wonderful, but you have to realize when to let it go:”

“Childishness? I think it’s the equivalent of never losing your sense of humor. I mean, there’s a certain something that you retain. It’s the equivalent of not getting so stuffy that you can’t laugh at others.”
“I do not make films primarily for children. I make them for the child in all of us, whether we be six or sixty. Call the child innocence. The worst of us is not without innocence, although buried deeply it might be. In my work I try to reach and speak to that innocence, showing it the fun and joy of living; showing it that laughter is healthy; showing it that the human species, although happily ridiculous at times, is still reaching for the stars.”
“That’s the real trouble with the world, too many people grow up. They forget. They don’t remember what it’s like to be twelve years old. They patronize; they treat children as inferiors. I won’t do that. I’ll temper a story, yes. But I won’t play down, and I won’t patronize.”

“As i began to grow out of my childhood I realized I have a very big problem with the character of Snow White. She is very beautiful but that is just where her character ends; her growing beauty is what gets her in trouble and it is her beauty that saves her from said trouble. It’s a bit sad that the very first Disney Princess only used her physical beauty to get through troubles instead of her brains or a combination of both”

Because her physical beauty is something she can obviously control?
Snow White was beautiful because she was kind and generous. The prince met her when she was in rags and doing chores. He fell in love with her song and her dreaming, and then he set eyes on her. The Wicked Queen could not know kindness, and literally became ugly and mean to destroy Snow White and then died that way as a result. The dwarves sought to honor Snow White and bring down the Queen because Snow White’s loving nature had won them over.
Snow White isn’t the most layered character, but if you think her character stops only with her looks then you seem a bit more shallow than she could ever be.

“I absolutely detest the Tim Burton version of Alice in Wonderland. Yes I haven’t seen it, but the trailer makes me cry. The Disney version of Alice in Wonderland made my childhood so magical. I don’t want to see oversized heads.”

The Tim Burton movie is horrible, but it’s still also Disney. And the large heads are for the artwork from the original story. So dislike it all you want, but maybe for better reasons….

“I always hated how in Beauty and the Beast the witch cursed the entire castle. What did they do to deserve that?”

That Enchantress was a bitch, man. Prince totally just read Snow White and thought “Freaky old lady wants to give me a gift? NO THANKS.” And then boom, he’s fucked. His servants are fucked. Whole house is fucked.
And he was, what, like eleven? Not cool.

“I can’t bring myself to watch The Fox and the Hound anymore. I know it has a happy ending, but the part where they hunt Tod makes me overwhelmingly sad. It makes me think of how things can change for the worst, just because of your differences”.

“I believe that Timothy Q. Mouse and Jiminy Cricket would make an amazing duo. As Disney’s first two sidekick characters, I feel that they can contrast each other well while still managing to be great friends. Sadly, the only time they were really on-screen together was the opening of the 1950s Mickey Mouse Club, and they didn’t even interact then”.

“Jiminy and Timothy” has a certain ring to it. I’m honestly am not terribly fond of either character in their movies, though (Jiminy’s fine otherwise).

“As a little girl I grew up watching Disney. The movies never gave me expectations/insecurities about hair, men, race or body image. I can’t help but be skeptical when people blame Disney movies for their problems”

The movies never gave me insecurities, but I also had relatively healthy relationships with my parents, siblings and peers.
I look at it this way…. One little girl with a healthy relationship with her parents could watch Cinderella and enjoy the movie happily. One little girl with a rocky relationship with her parents could watch the movie and identify with Cinderella because Cinderella doesn’t get along with her stepmother, etc. That little girl could look to Cinderella as an inspiration and feel better knowing things got better. But then another little girl may be specifically called “ugly” or “fat” by her parents/peers/whoever. That little girl could identify with Cinderella, but she could also think something, “but the difference is, Cinderella is thin and pretty and I’m not. I don’t deserve a happy ending like she does.” And that’s where those insecurities come in.
It’s always going to be different for everyone. We can all go through the same experiences, but each take something different away from it. I wouldn’t say you can blame Disney entirely for it, since odds are there are other, much larger, contributing factors to the lives of the people who end up with these negative expectations. But Disney can still be one of the causes. Not intentionally, but it’s nothing to be skeptical about.

“I think that the gargoyles in Hunchback of Notre Dame completely ruin the movie”.

I think they certainly confuse the tone of what is otherwise a rather serious and dark movie.
